As a conscientious parent you are entitled to evaluate sport programs before registering your children. Sports and coaches are key influencers in your children’s life. We all remember fondly great coaches and programs we’ve experienced. Unfortunately we’ve also had bad experiences. Sometimes the bad experiences cause children to quit sports which is most unfortunate. As a parent it’s our job to guide our children in the right direction the best we can. Sport Nova Scotia has a great evaluation checklist to help you assess programs that you are registered in or are considering for the futre. Since this was published, Sport Canada along with each national sport organization has mandated that all clubs follow their Long Term Athlete Development model (LTAD). We suggest that you add this to the Sport Nova Scotia checklist. Here is the link to the parent guide.
